So it’s become a tradition of mine to see one of the latest horror movies that come out in the movie theatres around Halloween season. I guess it’s somewhat becoming a tradition of mine if you want to call it that. I used to love watching the Friday the 13th marathons and then the Halloween movies on the USA channel’s Up all Night show. (with Rhonda Shear on Friday nights and annoying but funny Gilbert Gottfried on Saturday nights) Were we fans of the movies or just fantasizing about Rhonda Shear?
Anyways, I’ve seen the same sequel to a horror movie during this time of year...SAW...which we are now up to #6. I haven’t seen it yet but plan on it sometime within the next week. I’m sure it’s as gruesome and bloody as the last few...actually they’ve put more gore into it since Jigsaw ‘died.’ There is a couple other movies that seem worthy of a good scare coming out around the same time: Paranormal Activity, House of the Devil, and a couple suspense/thrillers that could be thrown in there if you want a good rush.
You know you could always revisit some older scary/horror films in the past if you don’t feel like going out and spending $25 x2(movie, popcorn, and drink) on you and your date. Here are a few of my favorite but spine tingling horror films from the past:

(1992)-This movie freaks me out to this day...always reminds me of those urban legends of when you say a ghosts’ name in the mirror x-amount of times and something happens. Hate them but give it props for a good scream.

(1978)-The OG—original Halloween classic horror movie...Jamie Lee Curtis screaming and crying for more than half the movie...this was back when the movie left the ‘gore’ up to the viewers imagination. It was and still is one of the scariest and most suspenseful movies ever made.

(2001)-I don’t know why I put this movie on the list...I got it...wouldn’t you like to see the ‘MAC’ guy Justin Long get terrorized by a bat-like monster creature in a movie? The PC/Mac commercials are so annoying and this movie takes that smug ‘I’m a Mac and I’m better than you’ look right off his face. It does have some suspense but has typical/predictable horror movie dialogue and character behavior.

(2003)-One of Jessical Biel’s first breakthrough movie roles post-7th Heaven TV show was this Texas Chainsaw remake. This was much more gory than the original...to the point I about walked out of the movie theatre. It’s still gut wrenching every time you hear the chainsaw and see R Lee Ermey’s grisly face as the sheriff.

(1991)-Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter was extremely creepy...Buffalo Bill...insane. Sure, there were not masked murderers or monsters in this one if you think of traditional horror movies, but this ranks up there in scare factor. (Well, I take that back...in one scene Lecter does wear a cop’s face as a mask after he mutilates him. Ugh.) Scary, suspenseful, and leave your night light on scary...I mean if a night light is your thing.
These aren’t my top 5, but I do rank them up there in the ‘must watch’ list. There are plenty of more scary movies on my list, but I’ll leave you with these for now. What’s your top 5...top 10?
