You know I really didn’t know what to expect when I saw this. All I knew is that it was breaking sales records and was about to bypass the movie Titanic as the highest grossing movie of all time. Funny thing was James Cameron directed Titanic as well. Talk about a rich mofo…not George Lucas or Steven Spielberg rich but rich. You catch my drift. If you like science fiction James Cameron along with Lucas, and Spielberg have gotta be the top three directors/writers of all time.

So here’s my interpretation and review of the film: (note that I went into watching this movie with no prior knowledge of the storyline)

Apparently, something occurred on earth where the humans pretty much destroyed it to the point where all the major resources were gone, and it was uninhabitable. That was my understanding…

Well, there is another planet that humans took interest in called Pandora. They couldn’t live on the planet without wearing oxygen masks because of the makeup of the atmosphere. The main reason that they took interest in this planet is because of some type of rock or metal that can be found under a tree that is worth something like $20 million per kilo and has potential to save the dying planet Earth. Well this rock can only be found in the jungles of Pandora under a tree called the ‘The tree of souls.’

The ‘blue people’ or the Navi(sp) are the indigenous people that live in Pandora are what stand in the way of the humans from getting this object. They’ve got to be about 2-3 times the size of a regular human. These natives speak a foreign language of their own and it’s interesting how humans have developed a way of communicating with them and interacting with them. The scientists(led by Sigourney Weaver--remember she worked with James Cameron in Aliens. Great pick btw) created some type Navi ‘clone’ where humans take over their body. Humans lie in a chamber of some sort(it’s basically a tanning bed) and enters the mind of this clone and uses its body. Think of the matrix. You lie in a chamber of some type and it takes over your mind…transports it somewhere else where you are mentally in another body. Now if your ‘borrowed’ body is injured or hurt, you feel the pain physically and emotionally.

The whole point of this movie can be compared to our rain forests and other valuable natural resources. Right? There are so many things that could help the human race in those locations, but money and greed causes humans to destroy it. Farfetched? Well, there is something special in the jungles of Pandora and only the Navi people understand what it is and how valuable it is. The humans only want that piece of metal and will take any measures to retrieve it…diplomacy first…then force that will destroy everything in its path. The metal/rock worth $20 million per kilo is enough drive for the humans to do just about anything to obtain it. There has to be a money grubbing leader right? Of course...a rough, crazy-eyed Marine LT Colonel who acts as the enforcer to the businessman played by Giovanni Ribisi.

Well, they bring in a disabled former marine to use a Navi clone and enter the jungles of Pandora to become intimate with the Navi people. At first he’s on board to help because they promised him they’d give him legs to where he would no longer be in a parapalegic state. Once he learns about these people and their ways, his mind changes. Then he realizes how corrupt the people he was supporting really are.

The movie is full of action, emotions, and even a love story ensues. The 3D effect is fantastic…personally I couldn’t handle all the motions so I finished the movie without it. I’m sure it will be great in Blu-Ray with surround sound. When you hear reviews that it is difficult to distinguish what is real and what is CGI…believe that! The special effects are phenomenal! This is definitely a must see and a Blu-Ray purchase ASAP!
