Like I said before, this is the start of several exciting UFC fight cards in the next few months. I do have to say this though…Dana White---love him or hate him, he has got to be one of the smartest promoters of any fight promotion ever. Call me crazy, but he has definitely increased the marketability and put the UFC/MMA brand on the international map. It’s true. Did you see how awesome and loud the Australian crowd was at UFC 110? I have never seen a crowd that loud and boisterous at any UFC/MMA event. It was amazing! It’s no accident that White ensures that there are some ‘hometown favorite’ fighters on the card whenever the UFC goes international. If you didn’t watch, you should have seen the crowd reaction when George Sotiropoulos entered the octagon and then again after he was awarded the decision against Joe Stevenson. If you didn’t get goosebumps, you have no pulse!
Herschel Walker at age 47 making his MMA debut this weekend on Strikeforce's Miami event on January 30, 2010. What's his reasoning to start at this age? Hmmmm...the desire to compete or perhaps caaaaching?
You know I don’t understand this and maybe someone can make light of this. MMA and more notably the UFC promotion is starting to make MMA more popular and making that turn towards mainstream popularity. Once an underground sport and something taboo and even considered ‘human cockfighting’ at one time by John McCain, it’s becoming more and more accepted. No question about it. You might have been used to seeing UFC clothing and Tapout clothing in stores like Spencers (you know the off the wall, risqué type of store in most malls) within the past couple years but now family oriented stores like Wal-Mart, and Kohls are carrying the same brands. MMA has become more of a business…a fad of some sorts…it’s riding high and only on the rise right?
