Like I said before, this is the start of several exciting UFC fight cards in the next few months. I do have to say this though…Dana White---love him or hate him, he has got to be one of the smartest promoters of any fight promotion ever. Call me crazy, but he has definitely increased the marketability and put the UFC/MMA brand on the international map. It’s true. Did you see how awesome and loud the Australian crowd was at UFC 110? I have never seen a crowd that loud and boisterous at any UFC/MMA event. It was amazing! It’s no accident that White ensures that there are some ‘hometown favorite’ fighters on the card whenever the UFC goes international. If you didn’t watch, you should have seen the crowd reaction when George Sotiropoulos entered the octagon and then again after he was awarded the decision against Joe Stevenson. If you didn’t get goosebumps, you have no pulse!
It was nice seeing the 'Ax Murderer' Wanderlei Silva get back on the winning track especially against Michael Bisping. Bisping is an easy guy to hate. I gotta admit that after seeing this fight Bisping has recovered from the Henderson knockout he suffered last summer. Even though Bisping lost, I give him props for how he handled the loss after the fight. Respect the game and the fans and you'll get it back brotha. I know some other fighters that should follow the same suit but I digress...
Anyways, the obvious fight of the night(my opinion) was Cain Velasquez stunning everyone by knocking out Antonio Nogueira. I definitely didn’t see this coming. Everyone raves about Velasquez wrestling abilities and his conditioning…now his standup is another feared attribute? This dude is definitely a workhorse and looks like he learns quick…kinda like a sponge. Hmm…you feelin me? I, like everyone else probably thought that Cain should not take Nog to the ground…Nog also has a boxing background so Cain might not fair well there either. Never…never would I have seen a knockout coming on Cain’s behalf. Now we all look back and say…”Well Nogueira did look slow and he is getting old…he’s not the superior heavyweight he once was.” All based on one performance right? This is MMA people…anyone can have a bad day. The thing is that Cain Velasquez’s is riding a hot streak and his work ethic is really unmatched right now. You better not half-ass your training if you’re in to battle this guy. Am I right?
