Should the NFL and NBA have minor leagues like MLB? PDF Print E-mail

What is wrong with some of these professional athletes lately? They are getting paid millions of dollars to play a sport that they love. They are lucky to have a profession that we ‘normal’ people only dream of doing. Every young boy or even girl for that matter has been in their backyard shooting hoops emulating making that last shot at the buzzer to win the NBA championship. We’ve also played backyard football and hoped to throw or catch the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Are you following me? I’m saying this because just being in the professional leagues of America’s all-time greatest past times whether it’s Major League Baseball, the NFL, NBA, NHL, or even NASCAR. It’s all the same and we’ve all grown up wishing…wishing to be a part of in some shape or form.

Now…you have a lot of these athletes who are ungrateful, arrogant, and just disrespectful to the history of their respective sport. Am I wrong? Let’s name some:

plax

Plaxico Burress(NFL)—never really had a good head on his shoulders. The dude caught the game winning touchdown in Super Bowl 42 and then he goes and carries a gun in a public facility. He’s so stupid that it discharges in his pants and hits himself in the leg. Now he’s serving jail time.

LJ

Larry Johnson(NFL)—bad attitude since he pretty much entered the NFL. He’s obviously a cancer in the locker room and has displayed a selfish attitude ever since he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. He was lucky that the Bengals picked him up despite all the legal troubles and character issues he was known for.

garenas

Gilbert Arenas (NBA)—another arrogant and very overrated player for the Washington Wizards. What is this dude thinking when he brings his guns into the Verizon Center facility? There was even a clause in his contract that said he could be terminated if firearms are brandished at someone or if he brings them into the team facility. He had everything…now he was suspended by the NBA indefinitely and could face up to 5 years on felony weapons charges? Can you say stupid?

There are a slew of other professional athletes that I can name who have disappointed me, the fans, and the game that they are so fortunate to play. I like how the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is tightening his league down and basically enforcing a no tolerance for stupid behavior. The NBA’s David Stern was on the right path when he was cleaning up the image of the NBA by getting the players to dress like they are professionals.

You don’t get this type of behavior too much from Major League Baseball. Why? Some people would say “Well, they’re too busy shooting up with roids or HGH.” If that’s the case, shouldn’t they be angrier and be into some form of violence? Is it because there is a legitimate minor league system that weeds out the rift-raft from entering the Major Leagues? Are the players that cause trouble in the NBA and NFL too immature and can’t handle success that early? Because their journey to the top is shorter, do they not appreciate just getting to the NFL or NBA like someone who makes it to the Major Leagues?

Thoughts???
