Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship title game…did anyone see this coming? This was more easily predictable than the matchup in the AFC title game. Looking back, the NFC looked incredibly weak or just plain inconsistent this year.
Favre has won a championship with the Packers in 1997 and went to another Super Bowl the year after. He’s got a ton of playoff experience…when he’s on, he’s on fire. 4TDs and 0 INTs last week in the smashing of the Cowboys was evidence enough. Can he repeat that performance?
Brees seems to pull wins out of nowhere, but is the Saints defense gonna be able to stop anybody? They stopped the high potent offense of Arizona, but they didn’t have AP—Adrian Peterson either. Minnesota looks like the most well rounded team left in the playoffs. The Saints have seemingly been the most ‘cursed’ team in the NFL for a very long time…is this the year that they finally make it into the Super Bowl? What will be the talk if the Vikings beat the Saints on Favre’s back and win the Super Bowl too? Will his legacy be engrained as the best quarterback ever to play the game? Will he retire then?
MANNING OR SANCHEZ???
What about all this talk about Joe Namath ‘er Mark Sanchez and the Cinderella NY Jets? The Jets played the Colts’ second string team when they beat them a few weeks ago so that doesn’t really count. It is unbelievable how much the Colts depend on Peyton Manning. It’s not the running game or lack thereof…the defense has been mediocre but do make the stops in the most critical situations. Rex Ryan has brought that smash mouth defense to the Jets and a ‘ground and pound’ type of offense. There is a hole in the passing game, but they didn’t win all year on Sanchez’s arm anyways right? He definitely is a smart, young quarterback that takes direction well…I’m looking for an upset and hope to see the Jets make it in.
With that said, I don’t know about you but for a team such as the colts that is 15-2 up to this point, they sure haven’t given me that ‘wow’ effect.
Nobody except for the New Orleans Saints really have given me that ‘WOW’ effect all year. Is that their downfall? Did they start off too fast and kind of fizzled at the end?
