Are Donovan McNabb's days in Philly over?

Philly Fans hate him...they've hated him since the Eagles drafted him in 1999 instead of running back Ricky Williams.

McNabb took the Eagles to the Super Bowl, gave them 5 NFL East Divison titles, 8 out of 11 years he took them to the playoffs, and boasts a quarterback W/L record of 83-45-1...how the hell are Philly fans not pleased?

I know, I know...I'm not from Philly so I wouldn't understand. I know, Philly fans show tough love, are hard on their teams, and have high standards. High standards??? No offense, but you have to have championships and be used to winning to have high standards. McNabb is a winner and a majority still don't appreciate what this guy has done for the Eagles franchise...with MINIMAL surrounding cast too.

You know who he reminds me of in a small way? I'll go out on a limb here too...John Elway. Ooooh...My fellow Bronco fans might not like that comparison but let me explain:

John Elway has orchestrated so many memorable 4th quarter comebacks and has made no-name wide receivers into somebodies by merely planting that football 80+mph right into their numbers with pure accuracy. Elway would win when there was no superstar talent on his team other than himself. Sure, there were some defensive standouts here and there but up until the early 90s, it was just Elway.

Look at Donovan McNabb:

He had no offensive weapons really until 2008. You can say Terrell Owens was a huge difference in 2004 when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl, but it was McNabb who carried them in and through the playoffs that year to the Super Bowl. Maybe if Owens didn't play in the big game, McNabb could have gotten the win? Ieave that to speculation.

Again, no weapons. Bryan Westbrook is good...when 'healthy.' At the end of the day, it rests on McNabb. Who'd he have to throw to? Guys like Freddie Mitchell, Jason Avant, Reggie Brown, Hank Baskett, LJ Smith, Todd Pinkston, James Thrash...just to name a few. Not exactly a Pro Bowl lineup eh?

Anyways, the Eagles fans supposedly want a change. Andy Reid or Donovan McNabb...or both could be gone after the season officially ends. Who will be gone? Both? Neither?

My thoughts are this:

It's obvious Philly fans and wants Kevin Kolb to start...some really bad Philly fans even go as far to say let Michael Vick to start. (imagine my face at that thought) If McNabb was smart, he should agree to this.

  • Agree to a trade to go to Arizona. He already owns a home there.
  • If and most likely when Kurt Warner announces his retirement on Friday January 29, 2010, a vacancy will be available there. Please don't tell me you think they will go with the overrated Matt Leinart because they won't.
  • It would be a perfect situation and an even better road to a Super Bowl there. You thought TO was his best target ever? or maybe Desean Jackson? Try Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston. McNabb would easily throw for 4500 yards.
  • The Cardinals could make a few improvements in their secondary and they would be right back in the Super Bowl but to win. It's a no brainer for Arizona and definitely one for McNabb.
I say this Donovan...set your pride aside. None of this be loyal to Philly...the feeling isn't mutual and never has been from what I see. I'd like to see you get a ring in a place you'd be appreciated. Hell, I'd say come to the Denver Broncos, but I know that wouldn't happen...or would it??? Hmmm...

Kurt Warner would be stupid to retire now. He's still got it and has a superstar WR tandem in Boldin/Fitz. Leinart will sink the team for sure.
