Ever have to make a straight-thru or a cross-over cable and just can't remember the color codes?
If you have experience making Category 5 or Category 6 ethernet cables, you will know how important it is to ensure the correct color codes are laid out for them to function correctly.
Straight-Thru Cable- For an ethernet cable to be considered a straight-thru, both ends have to have the same layout on both ends. Straight-Thru cables are used for connecting equipment different in nature such as a PC to a hub or switch.

Cross-Over Cable- For an ethernet cable to be considered a cross-over cable, one end must have one specific layout while the other end has another. Typically, you will swap the green colors with the orange colors as shown below. Cross-over cables are used for connecting equipment of a similiar nature such as a PC to a PC.
